With local firefighters working hard to put out the Sand Fire, which spread to more than 38,000 acres, our Scorpions didn’t hesitate to rally together and provide support. Our employees donated funds and picked up supplies, resulting in the delivery of 5 pickup-truckloads of drinks, snacks, and personal care items to Los Angeles County Fire Station 149 in Castaic yesterday evening. The donation drop was featured in The Signal.
Some of the donated items included water, Gatorade, protein bars, socks, foot powder, sunscreen, ChapStick, and eye drops—all items that firefighters could benefit from while they are hard at work battling the blaze and protecting homes and residents. We selected the items based on suggestions from a Scorpion employee’s father—a firefighter who is currently working to put out the fire.
“When you find success, you also need to find opportunities to give back. That’s a huge driving force behind the Scorpion culture,” said Kylie Patterson, Scorpion’s Director of Public Relations. “As a company, we have a charitable giving branch called Scorpion Cares. It is through this avenue that we rallied the troops behind the firefighters, law enforcement officers, emergency personnel, and everyone else helping with the Sand Fire. Within hours of being called to action, Scorpion has raised thousands of dollars to help provide those men and women with what is needed to continue doing the best job they can.
“This is our home, so it is especially personal to us: we live in this community, some of our employees and our loved ones have been displaced by the fire, and we are intimately connected to the people helping to fight this huge disaster. Sending supplies is the least we can do.”Scorpion Cares regularly provides support for local charitable organizations, as well as for unexpected needs that arise such as in the case of the Sand Fire. We love our community, and we don’t think twice about providing support where and when it is needed.
If you are interested in providing support as well, the American Red Cross said it is currently seeking financial donations, especially since it has already received more than enough in-kind donations. According to the article in The Signal, these donations go to the main disaster relief fund, which is used to provide food, water, blankets, and shelter accommodations for local residents following the fire.
